God’s Presence outflows from God to us through the Holy Spirit who lives inside us (Acts 6:5, Romans 8:9-11, 1 Corinthians 3:16, 1 Corinthians 6:16-19, Galatians 4:6, Ephesians 5:18, and 2 Timothy 1:14). God’s Presence is bigger than fear (1 Samuel 30:6, Psalm 34:4, Psalm 56:3-4, Psalm 118:6, 2 Corinthians 7:5-6, and Hebrews 13:6). God’s Presence removes sadness, finding rest for all who cast their worries onto Him (Matthew 11:28-30 and 1 Peter 5:7). If these assumptions are correct, then the song is Biblical.
I’ll subtract two points to assume that “river” is God’s Presence and another point to assume that in Chorus, we come alive because of Jesus. How much of the lyrics line up with Scripture? Pre-Chorus/Chorus doesn’t start until after Verse 2. This song follows a slightly modified basic format. Perhaps the Chorus could say, “we come alive in Your Presence”? If these assumptions are incorrect, then I’m completely lost. For example, I could reasonably assume that this “river” is God’s Presence that emanates from Himself to His children However, the lyrics could make this explanation clearer by explicitly using the phrase “His Presence” in the song. Jesus Culture relies on us Christians making assumptions to “read between the lines” in lieu of clear explanation. In response, we become spiritually alive. Whatever this river is, it seems to release prisoners, invoke dancing, and provide internal joy. There is some sort of flow of goodness that radiates from God in heaven onto people on earth. The baptism carried out by John was full immersion in the River Jordan. So, if John was Elijah returned to earth - ie a second Elijah - what does this say about Jesus? In Jewish belief Elijah was expected to return to earth for a second time to announce the coming of the Messiah. These similarities give an important clue about the identity of Jesus.
